Betty Lou Deveny (Wolfe)

Betty Lou DeVeny, age 95, passed away on December 24, 2023.

Betty was born on April 9, 1928, to Carl and Virginia Wolfe in Columbia, Missouri. She attended school in California and Arkansas. She graduated from El Monte High School in El Monte, California. She married Bob DeVeny, the love of her life, on April 11, 1948, in Springdale, Arkansas. They lived in Arkansas until 1952, then relocated to Wyoming. They worked on ranches in Chugwater, Rock River, and Jackson, Wyoming. Betty enjoyed life on the ranches. She cooked for the ranch hands during branding and haying seasons. She also made her warm home available cold newborn calves. She loved her role as a ranch wife and helped with fence building, irrigating, haying, calving, branding and other day to day ranch chores. She worked at the Alpenhof Lodge in Teton Village, Jackson Hole Credit Bureau and Teton Land Title, all jobs she thoroughly enjoyed.

Bob & Betty purchased property on Log Hill Mesa in 1978 and built a home there in 1981. They enjoyed raising their own cattle, training and boarding horses, working at hunting camps for Sam Robinson and the Flowers family at the Hot Tea. Betty was a charter member of the Fortunia Tierra Club and the Darn and Patch Club. Betty kept a daily journal of their life on Log Hill. The journals start in 1985 and continue until 2017.

Betty is survived by her four children, Diana Raine of Denver, Colorado; Cathy (Randy) Blakeman of Gillette, Wyoming; Duane (Karla) DeVeny of Montrose; and Anita (Bob) Posey of Ridgway. She is survived by her grandchildren, Jason, Chad, Rob, Becky, Lisa, Adam, Clay, Paul, Jeff, Ashton, Logan & Lauren, and 18 great grandchildren! She loved them all and remembered all their birthdays!

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Bob DeVeny in 2017, her brother, Robert Wolfe in 2014, and son-in-law, Jack Raine in 2001.

Betty’s family is grateful to the caregivers from Hope West and Colorow Care Center, whose compassion was a comfort during her final months. A Celebration of Life Service will be held this summer. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hope West Colorado. HopeWestCO.org
