Bessie L. Webb, age 80, of Montrose, Colorado passed away on December 3, 2014 at Heidi’s Chateau in Montrose.  Bessie lived on the family homestead on Hastings Mesa, in Sawpit, and Fallcreek before moving to Ouray, Colorado, where she attended school and worked as a lifeguard at the Ouray Hotsprings Swimming Pool until she met and married Clifford E. Webb and moved to Montrose.  As a young family starting out, they lived in Gunnison, CO, Thompson, UT, Grand Junction, CO, and Olathe, CO, before making Montrose their final home.

Bessie married Clifford E. Webb on February 4, 1951, in the United Methodist Church in Montrose.

She is survived by sons, Daniel (Terri) Webb of LaSal, UT; and Richard (Lori) Webb of Montrose; daughters, Janet (Mike) Ecker and Karen (Larry) Distel, both of Olathe.

Bessie was the proud grandmother of eight Grandchildren; Lori (Philip) Shove of Cameron, NC; Phillip (Crystal) Webb of Jay, ME; Bryan and Scott Distel, Amanda Ecker and Nancy (Stephen) Lindsey, all of Olathe, CO; Ryan Webb of Avon; and Shayla (Jose) Franco of Montrose.  She is survived by 12 great-grandchildren, ranging in age from 23 years to two weeks old, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Bessie is preceded in death by her parents, William and Arleen (Imes) Elam, sisters Billie Carver and Patricia Wills, plus the love of her life, her beloved husband, Clifford.

Bessie was an excellent seamstress and made a large amount of the clothing her family wore.  She was very skilled with her hands and gave her touch to a number of crafts, including plastic canvas, counted cross stitch, embroidery work, and in her late 60’s learned to crochet from her good friend Dottie Folman.  Bessie loved to play cards and games, especially Cribbage and Scrabble.  She was very good at working crossword puzzles.  She could work crosswords quickly and in doing so, added to her extensive knowledge of vocabulary.  She also loved putting picture puzzles together, and would do so in record.   time.  Bessie enjoyed staying active with bowling and swimming.  She had her set schedule to exercise and looked forward to each activity.  A favorite past time was watching sports of all kinds on television, and then some.  Bessie loved all the holidays, but Christmas was extra special.  She was a collector of elephants in all kinds and sizes.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hope West Hospice, in memory of Bessie Webb, P.O. Box 1804, Montrose, Co. 81402.  A private family inurnment  was at Valley Lawn Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the care of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, Montrose Colorado
