Berniece Mcclanahan (King)

December 14, 1919 — May 27, 2019

Berniece King McClanahan passed away Monday, May 27, 2019. She was born December 14, 1919 in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado, to John Frank King and Grace Rankin King. She is survived by her daughter, Carmona Adams, of Salt Lake City, a son, Lowell Dale McClanahan, Jr., of Fort Wayne, Indiana, eleven grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren. Berniece was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell Dale McClanahan, and her daughter, Bonnie Cardin.

Berniece grew up on Horsefly, where father was a rancher, and attended a one room schoolhouse. She then came “down the mountain” to attend high school. She met handsome “Bill,” from Olathe, at a Pea Green dance when she was sixteen and he was nineteen. They were married January 6, 1936.

Depression days took the young couple to Indiana in 1940, where they raised three children. But their hearts yearned for home, and in 1985 they returned to their beloved Colorado. “Montrose is my home,” was Berniece’s favorite saying. Her grandchildren loved her infectious giggles and spunky attitude. After spending ninety-nine and a half years on this earth, it was time to return to her real home in heaven.

Graveside services will be 10:00 Friday, May 31, at Cedar Creek Cemetery. Crippin Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements
