Benito Ramon Martinez

AKA Cowboy Ben

Ben was born on May 5th, 1938, 3rd of 5 children to Ramon and Sofia Martinez in Capulin, CO.  He spent his childhood in the San Luis Valley until February of 1948 when the family moved to Montrose, CO.  He lived there until 1965 when he moved to Denver, CO.  He spent most of his adult life there.  Ben worked for Children’s hospital as a electrical engineer for over 20 years.  At Children’s hospital,  he loved to visit all the sick children and they loved it when he visited them.  He missed the Children more than anything after he retired.  Ben then moved to Montrose, CO to take care of his elderly parents in 2005.  He spent the rest of his days on the farm where he loved gardening, hunting, cooking, canning and  spending time with his two lovely horses Miracle and Silver.  His last cattle drive was one of his best memories that he liked to share with his family and friends.  Cowboy Ben entered into eternal rest with our Lord on March 21, 2014 at sunrise in the presence of his loving grand-daughter Shantel, niece Monique and sister Helen who held him and comforted him in his final hours here on earth.

Ben is survived by his son Vincent Martinez, daughter Stephanie Martinez Hawthorne (Mark), grand-daughter Shantel Martinez,  and  three grandsons- Vincent Martinez Jr., Joshua and Jaden Hawthorne.  Sister Helen Mier  (Joe), Brothers Victor Martinez (Karla) and Cisco Martinez (Nora).  One Aunt Veva Maestas; God-Children Patricia Martinez Baker, Michelle Martinez and Dominic Romero.  Several nieces, nephews, cousins and their families and friends.

Ben was preceded in death by his parents Sofia and Ramon, brother Max, his 2 sons Victor Gerrod, and  John Mark and 1 daughter Mary Margret, and nephew Victor Martinez Jr.

Special thanks to Helen Mier, Monique Mier and Bernard Humphrey  for taking care of my father over the past few years and more importantly his lasts few months.

Memorial Celebration will be held at The Elks Lodge, 801 S. Hillcrest Dr, Montrose, CO on April 6th 2014 at 11:00 am followed by a luncheon to honor Ben’s Life. Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, Montrose, Colorado
