Barbara J. Barr

February 2, 1939 — April 16, 2013

Barbara J. Barr, 74, of Montrose went from death into life with Jesus Christ, her Savior and Lord in the early morning hours of April 16, 2013 at Sunrise Creek Assisted Living Facility where she had been a resident for the past fourteen months.

Barbara Jane McIntire was born February 2, 1939 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Los Angeles, California, the only child of Everett McIntire and Elvera Henkes.  She graduated from Hollywood High School and UCLA and received her MA in education from Stanford University in 1961.  She taught in the Los Angeles City school district as an elementary teacher for 15 years.  During that period she also taught at a military base in Heilbronn, Germany for one school year.

She enjoyed immersing herself in European culture during that time and traveled extensively though out Europe and the middle East, but her highlight of that year was spending two weeks in Israel and Lebanon.  After returning to her teaching duties in California she worked in several schools in the San Fernando Valley.  She subsequently worked for Spectrolab, a division of Hughes Aircraft and then became a substitute teacher.

In 1979, she married Edward Barr at the Church on the Way in Van Nuys, California where they were both members.  In 1988, they moved to Valencia, California where they remained until their relocation to Montrose in February, 1999.  Barbara is survived by her husband of nearly 34 years and was preceded in death by her parents.  She was an active member of Crossroads Victory Church in Montrose.  Interment has taken place at Grand View Cemetery, Montrose, Colorado.  Arrangements are under the care of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, Montrose, Colorado.
