Arthur Louis Labrum son of Roscoe Jeffres Labrum and Catherine Rose Hicks was born on October 27, 1941 in Castle Gate Utah. He was reunited with the love of his life, his wife of 58 years, Magdalena “Annie” Rogers. He peacefully passed away while surrounded with his loved ones at his home in Montrose, CO on October 1, 2023.
Arthur grew up in Sago, Utah and then moved to Naturita, CO where he spent part of his teenage years. He then moved to Fruita, CO where he enlisted in the US Army. While he was stationed at Fort Wolters Army Base in Mineral Wells Texas, he married “Annie” Rogers. After marrying, they moved to Colorado and settled in Ridgway where they raised their family.
He had an adventurous spirit and the heart of an archeologist who loved spending time in the Colorado mountains hunting, fishing, collecting rocks and searching for old artifacts such as Indian Arrow Heads. Arthur was an active member of the Ouray Elks Club and participated in their bowling league and several of their charity events. He enjoyed reading Historical Fiction Novels which included favorite authors like Clive Cussler and Louis Lamore. He also had fun playing on the Ridgway Baseball League Team called the Ridge Runners. He took pride in attending the Ouray County Annual Turkey Skeet Shoot because he was a decorated expert marksman in the Army and always came home with a Thanksgiving Turkey.
Arthur was a skilled craftsman who dedicated his life as a hard-working carpenter remodeling and building several homes in the community which will be remembered as beautiful pieces of “Artwork.” He said he loved being a carpenter and building things because it was great to be able to stand back and look at something he had helped to create. Although he is gone, he will not be forgotten. May you rest in peace on the wings of Angels in paradise for eternity. Let us rejoice in the happy memories of Art, salute and cheers to you.
