Adaire (Mary) Barrett (Warrick)

ADAIRE BARRETT

April 26, 1931 – October 23, 2023

Longtime Redvale resident, Adaire Barrett, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2023 at the age of 92.  Mary “Adaire” Barrett was born April 26, 1931 in Bayard, Nebraska to John and Jennie Warrick.  She and her brothers, Earl and Johnny, grew up in Tucumcari, New Mexico.  At the age of 21 she moved to Nucla, Colorado to begin her school teaching career.  She began as an elementary teacher in Naturita, later moving to Nucla High School as the librarian and yearbook advisor.

In l952, she married Donald Petersen of Nucla.  They had five children:  Cindy, Dawn, Penny, Jon, and Richard.  She and Don divorced. In l973 she married Gordon Barrett of Redvale.  Her family grew by two stepdaughters, Ann and Bertha, and two grandchildren.  She and Gordon were married for 29 years.

Adaire was involved in a variety of things in her full life.  She and Gordon loved to grow flowers; she helped with the Summer Reading Program when Redvale had a public library.  She was a landlord, piano teacher, childcare provider, 4-H leader, Redwing Boot dealer, and demonstrator for a rubber stamp company.  She loved to handwrite letters to numerous friends.  She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.  She also enjoyed many friendships with people in Redvale and surrounding communities as well as the circle of school teachers she worked with.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, husband, and children Penny Quintana and Jon Petersen.  She is survived by her children Cindy (Stan) Reiva, Dawn Adams Towner, Richard Petersen, stepdaughters Ann Barrett Newton and Bertha Barrett.

Her sixteen grandchildren:  Kenneth(Rhiannon) Reiva, Stacey (Casey) Brown, Becky (Brad) Phillips;  Joe(Monique)Adams, Donald Adams, Christine Adams; Adam Cline, Shayna (John) Buxton; Raquel Petersen, Ryan(Emma) Petersen;  Erin(Nick) Jorgensen, Natalie Sarff, Elizabeth(Meghan) Petersen, Cassidy Petersen(Dawson Brew); Barry Newton, and Brenda Newton. She also has 18 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at the Trinity Baptist Church in Naturita, Colorado.  Following the service, a dinner for family and friends will be hosted by the Ute Trail Study at the Redvale Community Center in Redvale.
