Thomas “Tom” Howard Ashby

Thomas Howard Ashby, age 83, passed away on August 1, 2016 in the comforts of his home with his loving wife and daughter at his side. Thomas was born November 22, 1932 in Mattoon, Illinois to Kester and Theresa (Rothrock) Ashby. Tom graduated from Mattoon High School in 1950 and went to serve in the United States Navy. When Tom came home he went to banking school and eventually became the Vice President of Central National Bank of Mattoon. On April 10, 1955 Tom married the love of his life Barbara Sims in the Gays Christian Church in Gays, Illinois. Tom enjoyed making soy candles for gifts, loved watching sports, music, reading, puzzles, his stuffed animals, and games on his iPad, but above all he loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and his Shih Tzu, Cookie.

Tom is survived by his wife of 61 years Barbara Ashby of Montrose, CO; his sons Brian K. (Monica) Ashby and kids of North Las Vegas, NV, Kent M. (Barb) Ashby and their kids of Galveston Island, TX; his daughter Jill (Joe) Hadden and their kids Tyler, Blake, Garrett, and Lauren of Montrose, CO; his sister Norma J. Pardiech of Mattoon, IL; and 11 great grandchildren. Tom is preceded in death by his parents Kester and Theresa Ashby, and his brother-in-law Dean Pardiech.

There will be a Memorial Service for Tom on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. at Celebration Church with burial to follow at Grand View Cemetery.
