Robert Wallace Ormsbee

September 16, 1936 — January 19, 2018

Robert Wallace Ormsbee, of Montrose, completed his journey here on earth on Friday January 19, 2018 at the age of 81. Robert was a lifelong learner; passionate about ideas, knowledge and philosophy. He explored life’s wonder through science, art, music, and scripture. A devoted Catholic, Robert felt called to serve community; tutoring children of immigrant families, volunteering with charitable organizations, and caring for elderly friends. Robert prayed daily for people he knew in life and those who touched him with their struggles.
Born to Seth and Imogene (White) Ormsbee on September 16th, 1936 in Grand Junction, CO, Robert grew up in the Grand Valley, spending much of his childhood on the farm of his grandfather, Everett Ormsbee. In 1958, he married Sheila Rita Tucker and they settled in Denver. They had five children. Starting as a pressman and typesetter he gained skill in the graphic design industry becoming an award winning art director. When Bob and Sheila divorced in 1975, he moved to Southern California working on promotional campaigns with major studio pictures and large corporate clients.
He moved to Montrose in March of 2017 and though he missed the ocean, he reveled in the splendor of the San Juan Mountains.
Robert is survived by one sister, Maxine Wiley, and all his children; Jacquelyn Ormsbee, Stephanie Davis and husband, Dave Oswald, Chris Ormsbee, Gerald Ormsbee, and Ken Ormsbee; grandchildren, William Garrett, Alana Lin, Arrik Oswald, Ian Oswald, Francisco Arechiga, Kyle Oswald, Kelsey Oswald, Aliya Oswald, Sofia Ormsbee, Nikolas Ormsbee, Elizabeth Ormsbee, Zachery Ormsbee, Nathan Ormsbee, and Dylan Ormsbee. He was preceded in death by siblings, Jack Ormsbee, Norman Joe Hamilton, David Wiley and Dana Wiley, and former wife, Sheila (Tucker) (Ormsbee) Wilson.
