Merry Alice Hatcher

December 25, 1939 – February 17, 2017

Merry was born in Cleburne, Texas to Marion and Wanda Chilcoat and she became the most wonderful Christmas present ever dreamed by her parents, her siblings, her husband of almost 59 years, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Her parents later moved to Callisburg, Texas where she attended high school and became a drum majorette for the high school band performing at competition meets, parades, and school sporting events in the North Texas area.

She met her high school sweetheart, Robert Hatcher, on a blind date in 1957 and in a very short time Bob realized she was a blue ribbon prize that he would never have the slightest chance at again in his lifetime. Merry became Bob’s beautiful bride on June 28, 1958 in Gainesville, Texas. Everyone always asked Bob, “How in the world did YOU ever land her?” Well, Merry and Bob grew up during the years of the “KING,” and not to tell a lie, she loved my blue suede shoes!

Following several moves within the Southwestern U.S. where Bob was employed in heavy construction of large dams for the Bureau of Reclamation, in 1966 Merry and Bob were transferred to the Metro-Denver area and they purchased their first home without wheels in Lakewood. In 1976, Arizona called and Merry entered into the banking business as a bank teller until 1978 when they were transferred back to Littleton, Colorado. Merry continued in the banking business and as a dental assistant in Littleton until 2007 when both Bob and Merry retired to Montrose.

Merry is survived by her husband, daughters Janet Green and Donna Ragland of Montrose, and sons Steven and Brian of Boise, Idaho and Olympia, Washington respectively. Merry’s siblings include five sisters and one brother in Texas, one adopted brother in New York, five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. God made Merry and christened her with perfection. There will never be another to compare with this lady who loved her life, her family, and her friends. A Celebration of Merry’s life will be held Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 10:00 am with a time of gathering & fellowship starting at 9:00 am, at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel; innichement will follow the service at the Serenity Gardens at Grand View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to HopeWest Hospice Services. Crippin Funeral Home is assisting the family.
