Margaret T Miller (Williams)

Margaret T. (Williams) Miller was born October 17, 1927, in Holmesville, NE, to James H. and Jean I. (Hollingsworth) Williams. She attended schools in Battle Creek and Norfolk, NE, graduated from Norfolk High School in 1945 and Norfolk Junior College in 1947. Margaret married Harvey W. Miller of Pierce, NE, on September 19, 1948, in Norfolk, NE. They have lived in Nebraska, Wisconsin, South Dakota, North Dakota, Texas, and in Colorado for over 30 years. Margaret and Harvey moved to Montrose in 1995.

Margaret loved sewing and upholstering, singing, painting, entertaining, writing, traveling, decorating, and playing bridge and Scrabble. She was active in church, President of Presbyterian Women in Jamestown, North Dakota, and attended a national Presbyterian Women’s conference at Purdue University where she also sang in the choir of women for all over the U.S. She was active in Christian Women in Texas and Colorado and in extension club, having served as a district president in Nebraska. She sang in church choirs for 62 years. Margaret had been active in Eastern Star and PEO, holding offices in both. Margaret and Harvey were honored by the Montrose Rotary Club as Senior Volunteers of the Month and by AARP for their outstanding volunteer service to Montrose.

Margaret later attended Jamestown College, Jamestown, ND, and the University of North Dakota to obtain a certificate to teach special education. She worked as a teacher, dental assistant, interior decorator, fashion saleswoman, and newspaper writer. She attended two state conventions in Nebraska, modeled in “Maid of Cotton” national style show at one, and attended International YMCA/YWCA conference in Champaign, Illinois.

Margaret and Harvey traveled to Europe, Mexico, the Virgin Islands, Canada, and over many parts of the US including several trips to Alaska. The thrills of her life included dinner at top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris and being on the Price Is Right TV show in New York in the 1950’s.

She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Betty Thomas, and sister-in-law, Helen Albrecht. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Harvey W. Miller; a brother and sister-in-law James and Shirley Williams, of Manhattan, KS, and two brothers-in-law, Mickey Thomas, Osceola, IA, and Donovan Albrecht, Sammamish, WA; three daughters, Catherine Hollingsworth of Wasilla, Alaska, Carol (Charles) Hillerson of Estes Park, Colorado, and Mary (Mark) Montoya of Hobe Sound, Florida; and five grandsons and their families, and cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 3PM Wednesday, January 20, at Crippin Funeral Home in Montrose.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Altrusa Foundation of Montrose, PO Box 3184, Montrose, CO. 81402.   Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, in Montrose is assisting the family.
