Lena Beatrice Jones Crow Taylor, age 94, passed away Friday, October 24, 2014.  Lena was born August 4th, 1920 in Memphis, Texas to Aza Lena and Robert Thomas (Buck) Jones. Lena was the baby in the family of 7 brothers and 2 sisters.  In 1936, at 16 years old, Lena married Weldon Crow, moving to Abernathy Texas. Weldon had a 2 yr old daughter, Charolotte (Lewis), which Lena loved and cared for as her own child.

In May 1948, Lena and Weldon were blessed with a daughter Lanay (Crow). After divorcing in 1959, Lena and Lanay moved to Abilene, Texas. Lena started up a very successful business called Sunshine Advertising Company. In 1965, Lena married Doyle Taylor who had 2 sons, Charles and Tommy who she loved as her own. Lena and Doyle moved to DeLeon, Texas. In 1983, Lena and Doyle donated a surgical wing to the DeLeon Hospital.

For some 30 years Lena and Doyle traveled to Ouray, Colorado every summer to get away from the Texas heat.  They love to jeep in the mountains around Ouray and enjoyed setting around the campfire at night telling the tall tales of their day of jeeping.

In 1996 after Doyle’s death, Lena moved from her beloved Texas and took up residence in Montrose, Colorado. She had been a member of Rosemont Baptist Church since she moved to Montrose and affiliated with the Southern Baptist Churches all her life.

In 2003 Lena, Charolotte and Lanay built a house and lived together in Montrose.

Lanay, Charolotte, Charles and Tommy have blessed Lena with many grand children, all the way to six generations.

After retirement, Lena loved to travel, make quilts, play golf and especially loved playing bridge.  She was a member of several bridge groups in Montrose.

Lena never met a stranger.  Her grand kids called her “Sunshine”.  Lena has been the “Sunshine” of all our lives and will be missed. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice, Shepherd’s Hand, Christ Kitchen, Wounded Warriors, The Gideon’s or San Juan Cancer Center in Montrose.  A Memorial Service in celebration of Lena’s life will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Rosemont Baptist Church on Niagara Rd., in Montrose.  The service will conclude at the church with inurnment to take place at a later date in De Leon, Texas.  Arrangements are under the care of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, Montrose, Colorado
