Jerold & Donna Greer

d. August 5, 2015

Jerold Lee Greer, born July 3, 1938, and Donna Jean Greer, born September 17, 1943, traveled to Heaven together on August 5, 2015, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on the Kenai Peninsula.  Jerry and Donna were both born in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  Jerry spent his childhood in the Bucklin, Kansas and Colorado Springs, Colorado areas and Donna spent her childhood in Black Forest, Colorado and Palmer Lake, Colorado.

Jerry and Donna were married on December 9, 1961 at the Little Log Church in Palmer Lake, Colorado during the coldest and snowiest storm of the year.  Jerry and Donna left immediately after their wedding ceremony for Virginia where Jerry served in the military and Donna was a civilian employee.  After Jerry completed his military service they moved to Winfield, Kansas where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry.

After graduation they moved to Denver where Jerry began his career and their first daughter Nancy was born.  Several years later they moved to Hayden, Colorado where their daughter Jill was born.  Jerry then began working for Colorado Ute in Rock Springs, Wyoming where their daughter Janelle was born.  They then relocated to Palisade, Colorado where Jerry worked for Occidental Oil Shale and Donna worked for the Palisade Co-op.

Jerry and Donna then began a new chapter in their lives and became the owner/operators of Sir Speedy Printing in Montrose, Colorado.  After seven years Donna pursued a new career in insurance and opened up her own American Family Insurance agency.  After ten years of operating a successful business Jerry decided to return to his chemistry career and went to work for the Department of Energy in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Jerry retired from the Department of Energy and began operating Western Colorado Liberty Safes and Western Colorado Overhead Doors, while Donna continued working in her successful insurance business.  Upon retirement Donna joined Jerry traveling throughout Colorado and surrounding states to gun shows and delivering safes.  They surprised everyone they delivered a safe to when they showed up to deliver the safe and it was just the two of them.

Throughout their lives they enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, traveling, cheering for all Colorado sports teams, attending their kids and grandkids sporting events, joking around with family and friends and spending time with their grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Between spending time doing the things they loved, traveling and their safe business it was hard to find them sitting in one place.

Dad had three daughters, but never thought twice about teaching them to hunt and fish as if they were boys, and mom spent her time untangling all of the lines so that dad could fish.  Many years later the boys came into his life through son in-laws and grandchildren and we are all thankful that he shared his time and knowledge with all of us and that mom was there to support all of us.

Anyone who knew mom and dad will know that they were never apart and everything that they did was together and with their family.  We are thankful that they have passed this on to us.  Mom and dad traveled frequently and on Wednesday, August 5, 2015, they took their last and greatest trip together to Heaven.

Jerry and Donna were loved and will be missed by their family and friends.  Their legacy will live on in the family that they loved.  Jerry and Donna are survived by Nancy (Jason) Larson, Fruita, Colorado; Jill (Bruce) Norwood, Ridgway, Colorado; Janelle (Terry) Trumble, Montrose, Colorado.  Grandchildren, James Greer; Madison, Ara and Cade Norwood; Zane and Hayden Trumble.  Great-grandchildren, Raiden Norwood and Sadie Greer.  Jerry is survived by his brother Roley (Eleanor) Greer, Canyon City, Colorado.  Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Arleen Greer and his great-grandparents, Chester and Leah Roley.  Donna is survived by brothers, Dale (Darlene) Hiatt, Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Dean Hiatt, Livingston, Montana; aunt, Ruth Bell, Wichita, Kansas.  Donna is preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Lou Hiatt and her sisters, Carol Edwards and Betty Daniels.
