Isla Beatrice Kimberlin Miles was born in Wray, Colorado, at the home of her grandparents, Charles and Ella Bolender, on August 19, 1920, to Reuben and Anna Kimberlin.  She lived with her grandparents while her parents.  When it was necessary for Isla to enroll in school, they settled on the family farm.  She and her parents moved to Olathe, Colorado, in 1935, where she completed her high school education, graduating in 1938.  After graduation, she worked in Grand Junction, and Denver.  She attended Emily Griffith Opportunity School.

 

She met and married her husband, Stanley G. Miles on September 28, 1941.  They moved to Montrose, as Stanley was called to serve his country, serving with the 232nd hospital division overseas.  Isla worked in a number of Montrose businesses, retiring from Montrose County.

 

To this union three children were born, Gilberta Ann (Tom) Gilmore, Laney Kay  (David) Logan, and David Michael (Debra) Miles.   She is survived by all of her children, as well as four grandchildren, Lynne Diane (Joe) Markum, Andree Kimber Thomas, Shaun Charles Spiers, and Shelli Ann Spiers;  six great-grandchildren, Shantel Nicole Thomas, Shaun Michael Thomas, Matthew Dean Markum, Blake Joseph Markum, Riley Charles Spiers,   and Isbella Madelyn Morrison; and three great great-grandchildren, Jaedyn Amari Lewis, Ava Lynne Thomas, and Alivia Jo Thomas.

 

Preceding her in death, were both of her parents, as well as her husband, Stanley G. Miles, and four of her brother-in-laws, who considered her their “sis.” She is also survived by her brother-in-laws, Melvin (Pete) Miles, and Dale Miles, as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

Isla loved and enjoyed all of her friends.  She spent her leisure time playing bridge, bowling, and visiting with friends and neighbors.  She loved the church and her church family.

 

Isla was accompanied on her final journey by her daughters, and son, as well as her Caregiver, Angela Roberts, and the wonderful Caregivers and Nurses of HopeWest.  She also enjoyed a short stay at the Spring Creek Chalet where she made many friends.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to HopeWest  Hospice, P. O. Box 1804, Montrose, CO 81402. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. at Rosemont Baptist Church on Niagara Rd., in Montrose with Pastor Fred Thompson officiating.  The Service will conclude at the Church and a private family inurnment will take place at Grand View Cemetery, Montrose, Colorado.   Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, Montrose, Co.
