Donald Ray Barnett of 18 Aspen Montrose, CO died at home of a massive heart attack October 15, 2016, at the age of 79.  Services will be at Montrose United Methodist Church at 19 South Park Ave on Wednesday, October 17 at 10:00 a.m., with grave side service to follow at Valley Lawn Cemetery.   Don was born June 23, 1937 in Mt. Pilot, Texas.   He joined the Army Security Agency, serving in Frankfurt Germany from 1959 to 1962.  After working for GAC Finance, transferring multiple times he settled in Montrose in 1963.  Don also worked in housing construction and for Gibson’s.  He married Laurene L. (Steele) Tessman, September 7, 1974.  Don was very active in the Black Canyon Barbershop Chorus, acted in or directed 44 plays for the Magic Circle Players, the Montrose United Methodist Church, Duplicate Bridge, and loved to ride ATV’s and motorcycles.  Don is survived by his mother, Flo Hensley from Wichita Falls, TX; wife Laurene Barnett of the family home; children Mike (Cherryl) Tessman of Jerseyville, Illinois; Karin (Bill) Slater of Montrose; and Carla (Dave) Alley, of Grand Junction; 6 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to HopeWest/Hospice 725 S. 4^th Street, Montrose, CO 81401 and /or Boys Club, 1318 6^th St. Wichita Falls, TX 76301. Crippin Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
