Anna M. DeVries, age 93, of Montrose passed away September 30, 2016 at her home.  Anna was born August 19, 1923 to Clyde and Opal M. (McCluskey) Smith in Wallace, Idaho.  She spent her childhood and received her education in Ouray, Colorado. Anna married Jerry DeVries on December 21, 1941.  He preceded her in death on July 5, 1996 in Montrose.  Anna was a member of the Olathe Baptist Church.  Anna was known for her gift of Gab, and she absolutely loved to visit with her family and friends. She spent most of her life farming and enjoying life’s precious moments. When Anna and girls traveled they often dressed alike, so they could find each other easily.  Today, the girls honor their mother on her final journey, dressed alike so they will be able to find her in heaven.

Anna is survived by her daughters Donna Herman – Phillip Nevarez,  Janie and Delbert Hawks,  Jeannie Gooden – Jack Johnston, grandchildren Richard and Lisa Herman, Randall and Misty Herman and their children Teona and Josh, Steffanie Gooden – Bart Palmer, and their children Degan Parker and Kynsleigh, Jason Hawks – Brook Darnell and their children Kaden and Kael, Ron and Jessica Herman and their children McKenzie and Lexi and Hunter, Justin Hawks – Brandy Moore, Jessica and Tom Harris and their children Jade and Jasmin, Shawna Welfelt and Jaden, and many numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.  Anna is preceded in death by her husband Jerry DeVries, her parents Clyde and Opal Smith, her daughter Roxanne Marie, her son-in-law Jerry Herman, and twin granddaughters Rebecca and Robin Herman, her brothers Clyde Smith, Robert Smith, and Chester Smith; her sisters Betty Longwell, and Dorothy Longwell.  The family would also like to recognize Anna’s special friends, Claudia Eiserman, Debbie Ferry, LeAnne Bouma, Margaret Goodhue, Eugene Barnes, and Ronald Brown.

Because Anna rode with Donna for ten years as Donna worked up to being Governor of District 10 Altrusa, which covers Colorado, New Mexico and Utah.  Anna would like memorial contributions made to Altrusa International Incorporation of Montrose, at P.O. Box # 3184, Montrose, CO 81402. There will be a Funeral Service for Anna on Friday, October 7, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at the Olathe Cemetery in Olathe, Colorado. Arrangements are under the care of Crippin Funeral Home and Crematory.
